Persistent Sadness or Withdrawal

-

It’s completely normal for children, especially teens, to seek some privacy and retreat to their rooms now and then. In fact, a desire for alone time is a typical part of development. However, when this behavior turns into consistent sadness or withdrawal from family and friends, it may indicate something more serious.

If your child is disengaged from activities they once enjoyed, feels chronically tired, or seems perpetually down, this can significantly affect their quality of life. While moods fluctuate, a prolonged period of isolation or sadness lasting more than a few weeks may require professional help. If their social withdrawal is affecting their everyday functioning—whether it’s school, friendships, or even their health—consulting a therapist or coach is a wise step toward understanding and addressing the root cause.
